IUC (Imposto Único de Circulação) is the road tax paid every year once a vehicle is registered in Portugal — not to be confused with ISV, which is paid once, at legalisation. Work out the annual amount with the 2026 tables: useful for comparing cars before you buy.

What the IUC depends on
- The date of first registration: cars registered up to June 2007 are in category A; from July 2007, in category B.
- In category A, the engine size, the fuel and the year of registration. In category B, the engine size and the CO₂ emissions, with a coefficient for the year of registration.
- Diesel cars also pay a surcharge. Electric cars are exempt.
