How can we help?
Tell us your situation. We'll show you the way.
You don't need to know acronyms or procedures. Pick the sentence closest to your case.
- 01 I want to legalise my car. You bought, or are about to buy, a car abroad and need Portuguese plates.
- 02 I am moving, or returning, to Portugal. If you transfer your residence to Portugal, you may bring your car without paying ISV — if you meet the conditions.
- 03 I need a COC. The manufacturer's Certificate of Conformity, when the car didn't come with one.
- 04 I need help with vehicle documents. Registration changes, plates, duplicates, technical declarations and other requests.
- ? I'm not sure yet. Tell us about your situation in a few lines and we'll point you the right way.

How it works
An unfamiliar process, in four clear steps.
This is how we handle every case. The exact steps depend on the vehicle and where it comes from — we explain them for yours.
-
Your request
Step 1: Tell us about your case
We find out about the vehicle, where it comes from and what you need. You don't need to know the technical terms.
-
Our analysis
Step 2: Find out what is needed
We explain the documents, the steps and the quote for your case, before going ahead.
-
Our follow-up
Step 3: We handle the process
We take care of the procedures included in the service and tell you when we need you.
-
Official validation
Step 4: Documents in order
The process is completed once the competent authorities, such as IMT and the AT, have validated it.
This is a summary of how we work, not a legal sequence that is the same for every case. See who does what
What makes us different
In a process like this, every detail counts.
That's where our name comes from: «pormenor» means detail. We take care of the details so you don't have to know them all — and you always know where things stand.
-
Really fast
We reply within 30 minutes during opening hours. With complete documents in order, your car is legalised in 48 hours.
-
Competitive, clear prices
You get the quote before going ahead, with the other expected expenses. The COC has a fixed price per brand, published on the site.
-
Feel free to ask
Nobody has to understand legalisation. Ask whatever you like, as often as you need — we explain without rushing and without jargon.

Costs and calculators
How much does legalisation cost? It depends on three things.
A tax estimate helps you decide, but it isn't the full legalisation quote.
Tax
Mainly ISV, paid once when the vehicle is legalised. It is assessed by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT).
You can estimate it in the calculator.
Fees and expenses
Inspection, type approval, plates and registration. They vary with the vehicle and the process.
We list them in the quote.
Pormenor's fees
Our work preparing and following the process.
Quote after looking at your case.

A real office, with real people.
We are in Fafe, in northern Portugal, on Rua José Ribeiro Vieira de Castro. You can drop by, but you can also make the first contact by WhatsApp or email.

Does Pormenor import or sell cars?
No. Pormenor handles car legalisation and documents. Finding, buying, paying for and transporting the vehicle is up to you, or to whoever you choose.
If you are still deciding, we can help you understand which documents to ask the seller for and which legalisation costs to expect.
When should I contact you?
The sooner, the better. If you talk to us before buying, you can make sure the seller gives you the documents you need. If the car is already in Portugal, get in touch as soon as possible: some procedures have legal deadlines.
What information helps in the first contact?
Make and model, country of origin, date of first registration and where you are in the process (not bought yet, already bought, the car has arrived). If you have them, tell us which documents you received: foreign registration document, invoice or bill of sale, and COC.
You don't need everything to talk to us. If you don't know something, choose «I'm not sure».
How are the costs worked out?
There are three different parts: the tax (for example, ISV), assessed by the Tax and Customs Authority (AT); the fees and expenses of the procedures, such as inspection, registration and plates; and Pormenor's fees.
Once we have looked at your case, we give you a quote for our services and tell you what other expenses to expect. The calculators estimate the tax, not the full quote.
How long does it take?
With complete documents in order, your car is legalised in 48 hours. If something is missing, it depends on what is missing and on the authorities involved — the COC, for example, is requested from the manufacturer. We tell you the timeline once we have looked at your case.
What if a document is missing?
Tell us what you have. Some documents can be requested later — the COC, for example, is issued by the manufacturer or its representative. In other cases the solution is different. We look into it and explain the options before going ahead.
Do I have to come to the office?
You can start by WhatsApp, phone or email and send us the vehicle details without travelling. Some steps require the vehicle itself, such as the inspection. We explain what has to be done in person in your case.
